Meet the horses without booking a ride
A farm visit is a way to meet Icelandic horses and learn about life at Lýtingsstaðir without joining a riding tour. We introduce the breed and our farm, with the chance to meet a horse up close. It is a different experience from a guided ride: choose a riding tour if time in the saddle is the main purpose of your visit.
Horses, farm animals and heritage
The documented farm visit includes meeting our horses, seeing our chickens and Icelandic sheepdogs, and visiting The Old Stable turfhouse exhibition and the Icelandic Sheepdog Heritage Centre. These places introduce the animals and traditions connected with the farm. Follow your host’s guidance when approaching animals and ask before taking part in close contact.
Choose a personal visit or enquire for a group
The farm-visit page describes the standard visit and a separate Horses & Heritage program for groups, with presentations, stories, coffee and homemade pastry. Read that page for current group sizes, duration and conditions. If your group has particular language or access needs, describe them in your enquiry so we can discuss what is possible.
Arrange your visit before travelling
Reservations are needed. Check the farm-visit page for current prices and requirements, then request your preferred date and group size. Our family team will confirm the arrangements. You can also explore a cottage stay or a riding tour, but do not assume separate activities are included in your farm-visit reservation.
